What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine is based on the belief that the human body has an innate healing ability. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) teach their patients to use diet, exercise, lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their bodies’ ability to ward off and combat disease. NDs view the patient as a complex, interrelated system (a whole person). We craft comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern medical science and traditional natural medical approaches to not only treat disease, but also to restore and maintain optimal health.
Naturopathic physicians base their practice on six timeless principles founded on medical tradition and scientific evidence.
- Let nature heal.
- Identify and treat the cause.
- First, do no harm.
- Educate patients, doctor as teacher.
- Treat the whole person.
- Prevent illness.
Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Dr Siminovich-Blok frequently complements and enhances her naturopathic treatments with her Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) training and perspective. In TCM health is perceived as harmonious interaction of functional entities and the outside world. Disease is interpreted as a disharmony in that interaction. Those functional entities regulate digestion, breathing, aging etc. TCM diagnosis involves tracing symptoms to an underlying disharmony pattern, mainly by taking the pulse, and inspecting the tongue for color, coating, body structure and geography. Scientific research has led to the development of several theories about how acupuncture works: Increasing the flow of blood to the needle site on one side, and stimulating the endocrine system, immune system, brain and central nervous system.
How does Dr. Siminovich work with Athletes/Performers?
My specialties are pain management, nutrition and stress management. Working with athletes, I am able to optimize their perfomance by shortening recovery time from injuries and enhancing physiological functions in order to increase their resistance, strength, and aerobic capacity. I have developed a special protocol that can help strengthen muscles and ligaments and prevent repetitive injuries.
